Over the weekend of July 6-7, New York City welcomed annual Korean culture convention and music festival KCON 2019 NY Presented by Toyota into the heart of Manhattan for the first time, drawing an audience of over 55,000 to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. This year’s KCON welcomed newcomers AB6IX, The Boyz, ATEEZ, IZ*ONE, TXT, VERIVERY, (G)I-DLE, and NU’EST to the city, and also saw fromis_9, SF9, and SEVENTEEN return to the KCON 2019 NY stage. The acts performed across both nights at the renowned Madison Square Garden.
Split across two-and-a-half days, the convention portion of this year’s event gave East Coast fans the opportunity to experience K-culture in countless new ways, including over 100 new and previously popular panels and workshops. Notably, this year’s event saw first-time appearances from numerous Korean acts and influencers from the music and culture side; hip-hop unit Balming Tiger and food influencer ohayo_nabong among some of the new faces. The KCON Studio also made its debut this year, allowing fans insight into the content creation process of popular influencers Ellen & Brian, Big Marvel, and Sunny Channel, and the chance to watch artists such as (G)I-DLE and ATEEZ in an intimate space.
