About the Group
This 7-member boy group debuted under Big Hit Entertainment (a subsidiary label of JYP Entertainment and the same label that manages GLAM and that 2AM was under before most of the members switched back to JYP Entertainment) on June 12th, 2013 with “No More Dream” off of their first single album 2COOL 4SKOOL.
Jimin instantly became one of the most popular members as “that one member who shows off his abs”. As for me, my geeky side is showing as I chose V, the cute member that suddenly had dorky glasses in the middle of the music video, as my own bias.
On July 16th, the boys revealed a music video for their song “We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2,” a continuation of a song that the group had written pre-debut. The song is a challenge to the music world with lyrics such as “all of you who become rappers because you can’t sing, the title rapper is a luxury to you” and “we go hard, we have no fear”.
Rap Monster stood out with his rap part, which had many an ARMY attempting (and failing horribly) to copy it. The young maknae also stood out with his part which translates to “I pulled all-nighters at the practice room instead of at school” and “while you all partied, I gave up sleep to live my dream”.
Only 3 months after their debut, on September 4th, the boys released the music video for “N.O”off of their first mini album “O!RUL8, 2?” The song is a hard-hitting anthem for students, calling them to rethink their lives. The studying and striving to be the best academically and hoping that it will lead to getting a “good job” and a nice house and a nice car: “Will these things really bring happiness?”
The music video is also very impressive, with the white, futuristic classroom and FANS GET TO SEE RAP MONSTER WITHOUT HIS SUNGLASSES for pretty much the first time ever. (Not entirely true, but close enough.) It was also extremely amusing to watch Taehyung kick the desk to the side after the room explodes, especially after one learns that he is actually one of the cutest and dorkiest member and is probably the least likely to win in a fight.
The choreography is also quite impressive, especially the Jimin-focused group choreography toward the end of the song that has Jimin doing flips and the back-up dancers/soldiers flying to the floor.
On February 11th, 2014, the boys released the music video for “Boy in Luv (상남자)” off of their second mini album SKOOL LUV AFFAIR, featuring the instrumental of their song “Just One Day (하루만)” in the beginning.
On April 6th, they released the music video for the least intense song that they have promoted since their debut less than one year before. The pop ballad “Just One Day (하루만)” is soft and calming, but still upbeat and shows off the rappers.
As amazing as the song was, it was the “appeal version” of their dance practice video that was what captured the fans’ hearts. It’s difficult not to laugh at the boys’ exaggerated movement, as well as at Taehyung sitting to the side trying his absolute hardest (and failing) not to laugh at his fellow members.
Recently, BTS have been releasing episodes of their reality series, “American Hustle Life”, following when the boys went to LA. It is perhaps the cutest and funniest thing you will ever watch. In the series, the boys form an… interesting and unique… relationship with their hip-hop mentors.
One of the mentors, Tony, has increasingly been shipped with Bangtan member Jimin by ARMYs, and the ship was approved by the man himself through his twitter account.
After that bit of adorableness, we move back to the dark, intense, and (unnecessarily) sexy.
They recently made their comeback with their first full album “Dark & Wild” with the main track “Danger”. The album was solid with Rap Monster, Suga, and J-Hope’s names sprinkled through the credits.
The music video for “Danger” was released on August 19th, and it was obviously created to kill as many fan girls as humanly possible with a single music video. Also, I personally believe that it is a clear sign that the stylists know what they’re doing when you can take Princess Jin, adorkable alien V, and Bagel Boy Jimin, all of whom pretty much look cute no matter what they do (even when they’re just sitting/standing there) and you make them look sexy and dangerous.
I swear, their existence on Earth alone is not safe for fan girls. Approach this music video with extreme caution.
Why You Should LOVE These Guys~
Lately, there has been a rise in the number of boy groups that have their cool, hip-hop image and upbeat songs, but I feel like BTS is a group that you don’t just ‘get’ into, but you FALL into, and when you fall, you fall hard.
These guys have been talented and amazing since pre-debut. I have met fans who have been following them since before their debut, having found their pre-debut tracks, which is incredibly impressive.
As a college student who was and still is struggling to find where I belong, I connected to the boys since their debut song. I’m an Asian-American child with an Asian mom and grandmother, both whom, though they have been becoming a little more accepting, are the kind that believe I need to be a doctor or lawyer to live a happy successful life, while instead I’m enjoying K-pop, music, dancing, and writing. Writing, drawing, and learning languages are probably some of the happiest moments in my life. I’m not especially good at them, but I enjoy it.
Their debut song “No More Dream” really is like the perfect student’s anthem. It reminds me of my favourite American 90s songs that were my anthems in middle school and high school, like Simple Plan’s “Welcome to My Life” and My Chemical Romance’s “Famous Last Words”.
Then, their song “N.O” set the bar even higher. It was an amazing song and became an anthem that I had on replay for days. This is a song that you don’t even have to be a student to appreciate, because whether you’re a kid or an adult, there are just some days where you just want to scream “NO”.
On top of being amazing artists that can pull off intense concepts and difficult choreographies on stage, the seven members are all just complete dorks that make you want to throw them across the room (in the most loving way possible, of course).
The boys also seem to share a fairly close relationship with their company’s CEO with even Suga calling the CEO out on a promise he had made pre-debut that did not hold. He has promised that Suga would be a part of a hip-hop group like 1TYM that only needed to be talented in rapping and rhythm and he would not need to work on choreography. However, BTS’s choreography is anything but simple:
This is how the boys act right before their special stage and yes, these are the same sexy guys from the “Danger” Music video. I swear they are:
On top of being adorable, still manage to show their talents at the same time. Somehow.
I would post so many more videos to try to show you how these boys brighten up my day every single day. They are talented. They are weird. They make me laugh. They make me want to throw them across the room. These boys are my babies, and I can’t express how much they mean to me.
If you’re missing any of the BTS collection, or you’re suddenly encouraged to support BTS with all your heart, you’re in luck! Their entire catalogue can be found on iTunes! And we’ve done all the hard work for you and put their songs in one giant playlist for you to find and download! Make sure you’re supporting k-pop legally and buy the singles for the artists you love!
